How do Search Engines (not only google) know how many visitors my website has?

One of the factors to score high in search engines is the number of visitors a website has. How do search engines know how many visitors my website has?
- Google knows this when google analytics code is installed
- Others know this via SEO tools such as Alexa
?

there’s many ways, the easiest is when you have ads installed (google ads, yahoo, …), they obviously count visitors as well.

and else, they can also count clicks, so, how many people clicked on the link in a google search.

and last but not least, depending on where your site is hosted your supplier may deliver the information, e.g. blogging services tend to do that (and often include google code in the page)
