SEO Help: meta tag, meta description and title info?

Hi, I'm building a site that insurance agents can build a personal website View through my pages. I would like this search engine friendly pages as such, have meta-tagging-section for the title, description and keywords built one. Does anyone know the gold standard, how many characters are recommended for all these categories and what search engines prefer, what?
