Custom Software Development Checklist

Custom database software development is to be answered by the use of a checklist of standard questions before facilitating a system be created, and before analysis begins. This checklist is designed to assist in the Analysis / Requirements phase of a new development of custom software project.

BUSINESS CONSIDERATIONS

1st Desired delivery date or the proposed timetable for the project.
2nd Business reason for it, and the urgency of the project.
3rd What is the cost constraints?
4th Use cases – description of how each group of users is the use of the system.
a. General business process – web users will buy a product, web user will Add a Client, Web users will add contact information, etc.
b. Input / Output – Web users enter data in forms, data is imported, the Administrator to run many management reports, administrator needs to export to Excel and text, etc.
c. Frequency of activity – many times a day, once daily, weekly, etc.
d. Cycles of activity – weekly sales reports to all sales managers on Monday morning, close to pounds at the end of the year etc.

NATURE OF APPLICATION

1st Do you have a desired development tool or technology in mind? 3rd Desired screen resolution (800 × 600, 1024 × 768, etc.),
4th Screen size (15 ", 17", 19 ", 21")
5th Preferred font and font size (Arial 10, Times New Roman 12, etc.)?
6th Target Windows version for each client computer in the System (1998, NT 4.0, 2000, XP, 2003 Server, etc.),
7th Web Server – MS Internet Information Services (IIS), Apache, etc.
8th Target computer operating system if not a Windows platform – Apple, Unix, Linux, etc.
9th Target workstation hardware for all client stations,

d. Regular backups at a remote location is
17th Are anti-virus protection and policies in place? It is an important Part of ensuring that a system remains up and running.
18th Will remote troubleshooting be desired? The addition of Error Processing and Logging software easier Remote support and troubleshooting.

d. Desired output format:

25th Is an ad-hoc custom reports, data retrieval or analysis (On Line Analytical Processing (OLAP), data mining, etc.) function is required?
26th Is an installation program for distribution of an application for many users need?
27th If a automated network or internet installation desired?
28th Are custom point-to-point communications required? This can also fax automatically.
29th Cautions:
a. Unique business rules, calculations, desired warnings, etc.
b. Significant textual analysis
c. Known or possible issues and Problems that can be relieved by the test

e. Multiple databases (Access and SQL Server, Oracle, etc.)

Data and volume

1st How many users are expected on the system in the vicinity (the first six months) and long (1-3 years and last) term of office?
2nd As many users is expected that the system at the same time during peak use in the near and long term?
3rd What kind of traffic is on the Network for the short and long term – numbers, text, images, video, multimedia, etc.?
4th What is the expected traffic for the short and long term?
5th What is the estimated number of records that are stored in the short and long term?
6th Do we need to import data from existing files or systems? Note that characters like '# have special meaning in data processing and conversion, and require special code handling. Names (D'Joy) and may contain other data fields such characters.
a. No. Example data will usually be provided in the database, text or table format. This contributes significantly in system testing and allows for error detection and error before the system delivered.

i. If all or part of existing data needed? What parts?
